Qigong for the Winter Solstice – Attune Your Energy With Your Thoughts, Intentions and Dreams
If you haven’t already, today is a perfect day to start preparing for the winter season and the upcoming New Year. The December Solstice occurs on December 20, 21, 22, or 23. It is called the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, where it is the shortest day of the year. In the southern hemisphere, it is the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.
You can easily check the internet for the exact date and time for your city and country (as of this writing and at my location, the 2014 Winter Solstice is Sunday, December 21, 2014 at 6:03 PM EST). Not only is it the Solstice, but it’s also a NEW MOON (Capricorn New Moon at 8:36 PM EST).
REMEMBER – This exercise is not only for use on the day of the winter solstice, it can be used throughout the ENTIRE WINTER SEASON. Imagine staying healthy through the winter season while your co-workers succumb to colds, flu and the winter blues. The ancient practice of Qigong embodies breath, movement, visualization and affirmation to awaken the body and mind to flourish.
When daylight dwindles and darkness lengthens and cold winter days bring you indoors, your body and especially your kidneys tend to contract. This can manifest as increased back pain or disease, energy, and attitude. By using the Winter Solstice Qigong exercise, your Qi balance can be restored and the winter season can become a time for you to exhibit an alert, clear and flexible mind and body.
It’s a particularly positive day for harmonizing your energy to end this year and start the new year. REMEMBER, it is your emotions that fuel your dreams and desires as well as your intentions that define your beliefs and perceptions and result in your true purpose manifesting into your awesome reality! And in the new year to come, to create a positive state of being, it is necessary that you express your gratitude and take advantage of every minute that remains this year.
It’s a time of vacation and a time of actively rushing to try to accomplish everything that needs to be finished as soon as possible. It’s a stressful time of the holidays, a time of family, friends, and the frenetic pace that holiday activities seem to create. It’s a time when very often, with all the rush, you forget about yourself, your happiness, and all that you have to be grateful for.
One thing you need to remember is that you will want to physically, mentally, and spiritually complete all that you have sought to accomplish this year. This is a time for you to build your NEW YEAR intentions and consciously create a clean slate, a new and revised plan for the year ahead.
Now is the time to start SETTING YOURSELF, SETTING YOUR ENERGY, YOUR IQ, and beginning your new year transformation with clear intentions, a joyful heart, and a peaceful mind. It is time to create the fertile field in your mind in which you will plant new seeds, new plans, and new intentions that you will continue to cultivate in the weeks to come.
In this time of MINIMUM YIN, the Winter Solstice, you have begun to store the energy you will need to remove all obstacles in your path. This is a time for you to gather your thoughts, dreams, and desires and use your imagination to see and feel yourself in the new year as you experience your TRUE REALITY with gratitude to the Universe. ‘Universal Energy, the Universal Spirit, for providing you with the awareness to see your opportunities among the infinite field of all possibilities.
The Winter Solstice is a time when Qigong practice can be a powerful way to adjust your energy and imbue your intentions with energy and meaning. When you connect to the rhythm of nature through your Qigong practice, your thoughts, beliefs, perceptions, and energy will be in harmony with the world around you, providing you with a powerful connection to the Universe through your connection. subconscious to the Universal Mind. .
INTERNAL FLAME – WARM YOUR ENERGY
To create an abundance of Qi within you, start by standing in a comfortable position, breathing gently, and relaxing. Place both palms, overlapping, on your abdomen just below your navel. Focus your mind on the area behind your palms in the center of your body. Slowly inhale and exhale imagining a candle flame inside your belly, growing stronger, brighter and hotter with each breath you take. As you breathe, the candle flame becomes brighter, hotter and stronger. Repeat to yourself: “My heart is filled with wisdom, joy, compassion and love. I am a light of Universal Energy and I am grateful for the Qi within me. Stay relaxed and repeat this 9 to 18 times, each time maintaining your concentration on the area behind your palms and on the candle you are visualizing.
CONNECT TO UNIVERSAL ENERGY
Next, stand still with your eyes closed, breathe gently as you center your body, mind and spirit and feel the connection to the Universal Energy – the Universal Spirit. Bring your awareness into your heart and keep your focus there. Stay relaxed and proceed to the winter solstice qigong exercise.
QIGONG EXERCISE AT THE WINTER SOLSTICE
In this Qigong exercise, you will allow the energy of Earth and Heaven to flow through you, attuning your human energy to that of Heaven (Yang) and Earth (Yin). Earth energy will flow upward through you and connect with Heaven energy, then Heaven energy will descend through you to connect with Earth energy, acting as a Qi conduit to you or a tuning fork.
Start by standing in a natural, relaxed position.
INHALE as you raise your palms from the sides of your thighs to your hips imagining that you are gathering your energy into your core, like water filling a balloon, and say to yourself, “I am so happy and grateful… “
EXHALE as you bend forward and run your palms down the front of your legs, over the tops of your feet and on the floor imagining that as you bend down your Qi is flowing (like water of a large waterfall in the pool below) into the Earth saying to you, “Now that I connect with the Earth…”
INHALE as you bring your hands from the ground to the tops of the feet, sides of the legs, sides of the body, sides of the head and up to the sky imagining that you are pulling Earth-Qi upwards through your feet and through the top of your head (like water flowing through a tube and springing up like a beautiful fountain in a bright garden) when you say to yourself, “…I feel the awesome energy flowing through me by connecting to Heaven…”
EXHALE bringing your hands to the sides of the head, sides of the body returning to a relaxed position while imagining the energy of Heaven flowing through you into your center (returning to the pool of water from which it all started), while you say to yourself: “… and flowing filling me with his strength.”
This completes a set. Repeat for a total of 9-18 sets.
ADDITIONAL IDEAS – CLEANSE YOUR MIND AND SPIRIT
The time immediately after the Winter Solstice Qigong exercise is an AWESOME TIME to “wipe your slate clean” for the coming New Year. This is a time when you can very often see most of the negative chatter hanging around clouding your mind, judgments and perceptions.
There are several things you can do, and while these aren’t necessarily Qigong per se, they are very helpful in clearing your slate.
1. You can write down a list of all your great experiences from the past year. Reflect and be grateful for all you have done. Take a moment to be happy with yourself.
2. Think of someone you might have resentment or negative emotions against, write names on it, repeat their names and end by saying, “I forgive you and let go. Fold the paper, tear it and throw it away.
3. Since you are now in a more positive space after the Winter Solstice Qigong exercise, take a moment to write down any impressions you may have about your true purpose and what you would like to create in the future. Use your imagination, don’t limit yourself and dream big – it doesn’t have to be realistic.
4. Take a moment to imagine yourself in what you believe to be your most positive and realistic future. Imagine and feel confident, happy and radiating a strong, positive light that all can see and feel.
5. Take another moment, even if you have already, and SAY A WORD OF GRATITUDE to the Universe for all it has given you.
Every moment of life is a new beginning, every choice you make is a new opportunity to manifest the SELF you desire! Please share this with your family, friends, or anyone you know who might be interested in improving their life. Enjoy life!
