Which American Ski Resorts Have the Shortest Airport Transfers

There are so many places to ski around the world, each with their own pros and cons. Here we focus on US ski resorts and travel times. You may be traveling domestically or internationally, but no matter where you’re from, staying close to an airport reduces your overall travel time. So it could be a quick hop from a US city or an international flight from the UK, Australia, New Zealand or South America, but it’s still handy to have just a short transfer to the ski slopes to get you on the snow faster.

Many ski resorts in the United States are near regional airports, allowing you to fly close to where you are staying and ski.

Aspen and Snowmass ski resorts have the shortest transfer times. You can fly directly to Aspen Pitkin Airport in the mountains from many cities in the United States, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, and Chicago. From there, it will take you 10-15 minutes by car or airport transfer to the city of Aspen, where the mountain of Aspen (Ajax) is located and where the famous city of Aspen with its many shops, bars, restaurants and nightlife is buzzing with activity. Snowmass is also only about a 15 minute airport transfer from Aspen. Snowmass is the largest of Aspen’s 4 mountains and where most ski-in ski-out accommodation is located. Often, airport transfers from Aspen Pitkin are included in an accommodation reservation, making it quick and convenient to get to your ski lodge.

Eagle Vail Airport is another example of a regional airport near several ski resorts. Beaver Creek is about 25 minutes from Eagle Vail and Vail itself is about 40 minutes away. Beaver Creek is a hidden treasure of a resort town and since most day visitors come from Denver, many of them stop in Vail and don’t take the extra 10-15 minutes to get to Beaver Creek . If you are flying into Eagle Vail, Beaver Creek is the first ski area you arrive at and with fewer people it is the one to try. Vail Ski Resort is of course famous for having the greatest amount of terrain in Colorado with its incredible back bowls, which are especially fabulous on powder days, as well as groomed runs up front for more intermediate skiers and snowboarders.

Now Jackson Hole Airport is close to its namesake Jackson Hole Ski Resort, just 30 minutes away by car or airport shuttle. Jackson Hole Ski Resort is located in the village of Teton and is well known for its expert runs, including “Corbet’s Couloir”. However, the number of intermediate blue runs it has is less known and every lift (except the tram) has access to at least one blue run, to give you some peace of mind. Guests landing at Jackson Hole Airport can also access the nearby ski areas of Snow King and Grand Targhee.

Salt Lake City is an international airport with daily flights from Paris and Amsterdam as well as many US cities including Los Angeles and San Francisco, particularly useful for our Australian customers. From Salt Lake, it’s a super-quick 35-minute transfer to Park City Ski Resort, now the largest in the United States. Since the Park City and Canyons ski areas were connected by the Quicksilver Gondola, this ski area now called Park City Mountain is huge and offers endless skiing and snowboarding opportunities, even for people staying two weeks or more.

Also nearby is Deer Valley Resort, just 45 minutes from the Salt Lake City airport. This ski-only resort is named the number one ski resort in North America by Ski Magazine year after year and offers a plethora of luxury ski-in ski-out accommodations. The short transfer makes the ski resorts of Park City and Deer Valley convenient choices, especially with the town of Park City less than 5 minutes away for your enjoyment with its historic Main Street, shops, bars and restaurants.

Salt Lake City also provides access to other Utah ski resorts including Brighton, Alta, Snowbird and more.

Denver International Airport is home to at least 2 direct flights from London, ideal for British skiers looking to experience the delights of powder skiing in America. Both British Airways and Norweigan Air fly direct during the ski season, with United flights being added towards the end of March/April for Easter. With this direct flight, it’s then easy to hop straight on a shuttle to any of Colorado’s resort towns. Breckenridge & Winter Park are about a 2 hour drive or sometimes less depending on snow conditions. Alternatively, Vail and Beaver Creek are just over an hour away. Aspen & Steamboat are also accessible from Denver, but a bit further, about 4 hours transfer, so regional airports may be more convenient.

These are some of America’s premier ski resorts close to an airport with short transfers, making your trip quick and easy. Reduce travel time, check into your accommodation, put on your skis and be on the slopes in no time, happy skiing!
